Class of 2013 sells Candy Grams during both lunches

Margaret Fikany ’13 | Staff Writer

For the third year now, the Student Council Class of 2013 will be having a Candy Gram sale this until Friday, Adviser Jenna Kuess said.  The money raised will go to prom funds and will help spread “holiday cheer” throughout South.

Members of the Student Council bought a variety of candy canes to sell throughout the week and will deliver the candy canes on the Friday before Holiday break, Kuess said.  Candy canes cost $1 and can be purchased during first or second lunches.

Vice President Olivia Monette looks forward to the candy gram sales every year, she said, as it gives her a chance to spend time with her council members when they’re selling candy.

“It’s always very entertaining to see what different things people write on their messages and to witness anonymous crushes,” said Monette.  “This fundraiser is mainly about letting people send candy canes to their friends or ‘special someone’ and getting the school excited for the upcoming holidays!”

Aside from other fundraisers thrown by the Class of 2013, the annual Candy Gram sale was inspired by the movie “Mean Girls,” Kuess said. In the film, the senior class sold candy canes to raise money for their upcoming prom.

“People always quote the movie, so why not find a fundraiser idea out of it as well?” said Monette.

The Candy Gram sales are Blake Prentice’s ’14 favorite fundraiser of the year, she said.

“Ever since I was a freshman, I have been buying candy grams for all my friends,” said Prentice.  “My friends and I always send our candy canes anonymous with a funny note to see if our friends can guess who sent it.”

The sales are only going on from today till this Friday, so bring your dollar to your first or second lunch to help fund the Class of 2013 while spreading holiday cheer!
