For a holiday community service project, the Class of 2016 Student Council is holding a blanket making party tomorrow after school in the library.
Any freshmen who are interested in helping make blankets are should come to the library and work until about 6 p.m. If students can’t make the party but would like to help out, there are boxes located in the library and the offices where they can drop off blankets.
All blankets made will be donated to the Detroit Rescue Missions Ministries, a parent organization that runs numerous local homeless shelters. The blankets will be delivered to the organization sometime during holiday break, chair person Hannah Connors ’16 said.
“We’re doing this because with the holiday season it’s easy to get caught up in things that don’t matter, but it’s important to be selfless and give to those who aren’t as fortunate as us,” said Connors.
Students do not need to bring materials. The freshman class parents and students donated money that went towards buying blanket making kits that include fleece, to distribute at the party for those making blankets.
“We want as many people as we can to get involved and help the cause,” said Connors.
