This season, the boys swimming and diving team hopes to swim their way to success in the MAC Red Conference, head coach Eric Gunderson said.

The team is 3-3 after losing to Ann Arbor Huron in their first meet on Thursday, Dec.6 and placing third out of seven teams in the Pangborn Invitational at Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday, Dec. 11, Gunderson said.

After placing 8th at the Division II state championship meet last year, the team hopes to improve their standings this season, captain Patrick Jackson ’14 said.

“Our goals are to go undefeated in MAC dual meets, win MAC conference meet and place in the Top-10 at states,” said Gunderson.

Along with a handful of returning state qualifiers, the team has acquired several new members with great potential, Gunderson said.

“My goal is to get kids who are in between to the next level and get the freshmen comfortable with the team,” said captain CJ Stafford ’13.

Standout swimmers include Jackson, the returning state champion in the 100 yard butterfly, and Nick Yoo ’14, Gunderson said.

The diving team is also strong this season, led by Eric Addy ’14, Gunderson said.

“(Addy) has qualified for diving regionals the last two seasons and is expected to qualify for states this year,” said Gunderson.

The team will compete at the Warrior Relay Meet at Waterford Mott on Tuesday, Dec. 15 and will oppose Utica Ford Thursday, Dec. 18. They face hometown rival Grosse Pointe North on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Home, Jackson said.

“We have a fun meet schedule with some new competitions,” said Gunderson. “It should be a fun season.”
