Girls varsity field hockey crushed the Academy of Sacred Heart at Wednesday night’s game, bringing home a 4-1 victory. Senior Night celebrated the field hockey careers of seniors Allyson Hartz, Becca Adams, Madeline DesNoyer and Madison Thomas. All players were on their game and never let up on their pressure.

“Everyone worked extremely hard to improve upon the skills that we’ve been lacking in past games,” captain Becca Adams ‘16 said.

Allyson Hartz ’16 had a stellar game scoring all four goals for her team with assists from Halle Mogk ‘17, Carson Dennis ‘17 and Hannah Voytowich ‘18.

“I couldn’t have even scored one goal if it weren’t for every girl out on that field with me,” Hartz said. “Everyone was getting touches on the ball, and everyone left it out on the field.”

The players were hardly phased by Sacred Heart even though in the past they have beat South. The girls hustled out on the field and quickly came back after being down by one in the first half scoring four unanswered goals.

“We were confident in our abilities and went into the game with a positive attitude,” Adams said.

Senior Night brought the players adrenaline and surreal vibes knowing for some of them, it was the last home game of their career. All four of the seniors dominated the field and and made their last game one to remember.

“It’s surreal that my career in a sport I’ve dedicated so much time and energy to is coming to an end,” Hartz said. “With our team behind us, the seniors knew we could come out victorious.”
The girls play their last regular season game in East Grand Rapids on Saturday, while hoping to keep this upward momentum as playoffs approach.
