In a dominating fashion, the boys varsity soccer team beats crosstown rival Grosse Pointe North 3-1 on September 22, in the annual Wounded Warrior game.

“We practiced together, played well together, and this was the result,” said head coach Francesco Cilano.

After losing to North 2-0 earlier in the season, the team was very motivated to beat North the second time around, captain Robert Durand ‘15 said.

“That was a tough loss early in the season,” said Durand. “All the guys we’re determined not to let that happen again.”

South got up to an early 1-0 lead when Jackson Rosati ‘16 scored off an assist from Brad Beddow ‘15 with 27:01 left in the first half. Rosati scored again off a rebound with 15:29 left in the half to give South a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

“It felt awesome to score twice,” said Rosati. “Those were my first two goals of the season so it was even better for them to be against North.”

North scored with 32:34 left in the game to cut South’s lead to 2-1. South responded with a goal by Beddow with 10:33 left in the game.

Cilano was excited about winning the game, but was more excited with how his team played together, he said.

“It’s not so much about beating North, but about having a team back,” said Cilano. “It’s about being a group, never giving up, and having heart. We’re just showing what we can do.”

The team plays tonight at L’Anse Creuse North at 7 PM.
