South’s Student Association (SA) and the Executive Board of Education have selected a Grand Marshall for this year’s Homecoming parade. However, this year, embarking on a new tradition, the announcement will be kept secret until the pep rally on the day of the parade, said Distelrath.
Although the announcement will not be made until the pep rally, hints will be given as to who the Grand Marshall will be during the early part of Homecoming Week.
“During our meetings, we let people nominate someone and after all of the nominations come in, we vote for three. Eventually, we vote for the one who will be our Grand Marshall”, said SA Treasurer Anyslie Fritz ‘14
Former teacher at South Dan Griesbaum was selected as the Grand Marshall last year. Typically, Grand Marshalls are teachers, administrators or people who are active in the community.
“We are looking at honoring a staff member that has been involved with the school. Someone that has impacted a large portion of the student body and that we want to celebrate,” said SA adviser Laura Distelrath.
This year’s honoree will give a speech during the pep rally, ride in the lead car in the parade, and will have the honor of crowning this year’s Homecoming Queen, during the halftime of the game.
