The new website fundperk.com, created by varsity golf coach Rob McIntyre, is making it easier for South sports teams to raise money, McIntyre said.

The site, which launched in February, allows people interested in helping different teams and causes to purchase items featuring that team’s logo, McIntyre said. From there, a majority of that money is donated to the team or cause, and the rest goes to the website. The amount donated is between 66 and 80 percent, and varies depending on what product is chosen.

The reason the website is so successful is because it spreads the word about the fundraiser and allows for different people to get involved, McIntyre said.

“When you’re a coach and you have to do a fundraiser, your main course is going to come from the parents, and we tapped that on the shoulder already,” said McIntyre.  “So the question becomes, how do you expand the circle that you can give the opportunity to support what they choose to support? And so this way I can email alumni, people who were on the golf team, and ask them if they want to support the team that they were once a part of and broaden that circle as much as possible.”

McIntyre said he got the idea when talking with a coworker who had students go through South.

“Running the golf team and in the financial environment we’re in, I wanted to stay ahead of the budget concerns and how to keep the program strong and well supported,” said McIntyre.

Since the website became operational, McIntyre said he has slowly been getting the word out to South teams and has been approached by teams from several other schools asking about being a part of the project.

Drew Kissalt, coach for the girl’s junior varsity lacrosse team, said he saw a presentation by McIntyre at a spring coaches meeting and liked the idea of the website.

“With the advances in social media it’s so easy to spread the word about our site,” said Kissalt. “I also really like how easy it is. Our girls can tell their family and friends about the site and leave it at that. No going door-to-door selling magazines or pushing people towards a sale.”

Kissalt said he likes the flexibility of the site and how it allows people to spend what they want.

Varsity lacrosse captain Bridgett Champagne ’14, said she thinks the website will be extremely beneficial for the team.

“The website will really help with fundraising and bringing in money for a new set of team bags and uniforms,” said Champagne.

McIntyre said he is excited about the site and hopes to get it more automated soon to reduce the cost of production. He wants to continue to get the word out about fundperk.com and continue to grow the company.
