To cut the cost of participating, the Varsity cheerleading team will hold a fundraiser in the student commons on Saturday, Nov. 16 said cheerleading coach Lisa Kurtz.

The team will all participate by bringing in different snacks and appetizers said Kurtz. There will be 15 different vendors coming to have variety among the fundraiser who will each donate 15 to 20 percent of their profit back to the program.

“There is a bunch of planning that comes along with his because we have to persuade people to actually come to the event and have refreshments for those who do attend it,” said  Varsity cheerleading captain Brianna Harris ’14.

This is the second year the cheer team has held a fundraiser said Harris . All of the money that is raised will be going back into the program to fund new uniforms, and to help pay for other necessities such as team camp and a tumbling coach.

“We try to do the fundraisers so it goes directly to the kids and subsidizes the costs,” said Kurtz.

Looking to support the cheer team and get a head start on her holiday shopping, Cameron Zihlman ’15 said she plans on attending the fundraiser and is really looking forward to it.

“I did not go to the fundraiser last year, but I do plan on going this year,” said Zihlman. “There are supposed to be a lot of different vendors so I am hoping to pick up a few gifts this year for my family members.”

Taking on the role of team captain this year, Brianna Harris said she has been working hard with the team and other captains to have a successful fundraiser this season. There is a lot of planning and advertising that has to go on in order for it to be a success.

“We (captains) set an example for our teammates and show them that fundraising is a big part of how we are able to get the necessities we need,” said Harris. “There is a bunch of planning that comes along with this because we have to persuade people to actually come to the event and have refreshments for those who attend it.”

The fundraiser will be held in the student commons Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and all are welcome to join, Harris said. Refreshments will be served to those who decide to attend this event.
