Seniors prepare for fast approaching prom

One of the biggest moments in a high school senior’s life, Prom, is fast approaching with the event taking place on Saturday, May 19.

“Things are coming along great,” said Vukas. “Everything is almost in place.”

This year’s prom will take place at the Roostertail restaurant on the Detroit riverfront, said Vukas. The location has changed for this year, as last year’s Prom took place at the Detroit Athletic Club (DAC).

Prom will cost the usual $50 per person. The cost includes dinner, a desert table, a special beverage bar, party favors, a professional photographer, and a DJ, said Vukas. The dance will start at 7 p.m. and end at approximately midnight. No students will be allowed in after 7:45 p.m. or permitted to leave before 11:30 p.m.

Planning for this event has not come out of nowhere, said Vukas. The student government starts preparing for prom as soon as they step into high school. This allows students to raise money through dances, food sales and other various fundraisers. Last year’s prom cost around $35,000, former Senior Class Adviser Laura Distelrath said. That price is just under the cost of this year’s prom, which is in the ballpark of $35,000 as well.

“Everything that we’ve done since freshmen year has been devoted to fundraising for Homecoming each year and Senior Prom,” said Senior Class President Brian Hall ’12. “The workload has been a lot, but it’s all about to pay off soon.”

Tickets will go on sale starting today and run through May 8. During this time students will be able to reserve seating and full tables if needed.

“I’m really excited for prom,” said John Bradley ‘12. “I kind of wish that it was at the DAC again, but the Roostertail should be a good time.”
