Boys basketball falls to Mount Clemens, 61-43

On Tuesday night, the boys’ basketball team fell 61-43 to the undefeated Mount Clemens Battling Bathers. Despite losing the game, the Blue Devils are still 6-3 and remain in good position for the playoffs.

Entering their hardest road game of the season so far, South struggled to drive and create scoring opportunities against a very aggressive 2-3 zone. Turnovers, missed shots and giving up crucial offensive rebounds were all factors that plagued the Blue Devils, Head Coach Troy Glasser said.

“I think we missed a lot of shots we usually make, they had their heads down, but that’s part of the game, playing through adversity,” Glasser said . “When we had shots, we didn’t take the shots. Guys passed them up and we threw the ball away.”

Apart from the recurring physical mistakes on the court, mentally, the team’s chemistry was out of place. Players and coaches appeared to be frustrated with the lack of success, as the team was unable to take a lead during any point of the game. Nate Hall ’17 cleared up all the drama and reassured that it was just an off night.

“It was just one of those days where everyone was not on the same page mentally and fundamentally, and they capitalized off mistakes we made,”  Hall said.

With a chance to get back on the winning side of things as they host Anchor Bay, their mentality will be much more aggressive and focused, Hall said.

“We play anchor bay and our mentality is just to run them out the gym,” Hall said.

The Blue Devils look to make it 7-3 on the year when they face off against Anchor Bay at home on Friday at 7 p.m.
