Boys hockey looking for win against North tonight

Facing their cross-town rival, the boys hockey team will be facing Grosse Pointe North at City Ice Rink in Detroit tonight at 7 p.m.

“We are looking to shut them down at every avenue,” said Alternate Captain Andrew Hyde ’14.  “Leaving them no room to breathe in is how we’re going to win this game.”

The team’s record is 7-3-1, and they are looking to make it 8-3-1 by the end of the night, Hyde said.

“After losing last year we are determined to come out with a W,” said Hyde.

Most players from North and South hockey grew up playing together and that makes  the stakes higher for both teams, Captain Andrew Bigham ‘14 said.  It also amplifies the rivalry because they will be playing against their old teammates.

“Beating North is always a big goal because we’re rivals, and nothing is worse than losing to your rival,” said Bigham.  “North being in a different division and not effecting our playoffs doesn’t change our will to win, it’s a matter of pride.”

This game has been the biggest thing on the team’s mind all break and it’ll continue to be so until the puck hits the ice, Cameron Mogk ’15 said.

“If we capitalize on scoring chances and play well systematically there is no reason we shouldn’t bring home a win for the blue devils tonight,” said Mogk.
