Organizing the Drive 4UR School event for the second year, the Mothers’ Club hopes to raise $6,000 during the North/South tailgate, Mothers’ Club member Allison Baker said.

For every car that is test driven during the Chamber of Commerce tailgate, Bob Maxey Linclon will donate $20 to the Mothers’ Club. Baker said Bob Maxey is a tremendous partner and extremely easy to work with.

“We know funding for schools is hard to come by, and we want to do our part to help make sure Grosse Pointe South remains one of the top high schools in the state,” said Marty Rutkowski, the New Car Sales Manager at Bob Maxey.

“It’s supposed to be fabulous weather,” said Baker. “We are hoping to get the maximum, which is $6,000.”

The event will be held Friday, Oct. 11 from 5 to 7p.m. before the North v. South football game, Baker said. To drive a car, participants will have to meet on the front lawn of South during the designated time. From there, dealership staff will assist them in preparing for their seven to 10 minute test drive of their favorite Lincoln. Participants must be 18 years or older to drive.

The money raised will go toward classroom enrichment projects, senior scholarships, and preservation of the building, Baker said. The more drivers that come out, the more money that will be raised to help support our school.

“The teachers come up with the ideas,” said Baker. “They come to Mothers’ Club and give us all the different things they would like to use the money for.”

In the past, the money has been used for things such as field trips or art supplies, Baker said. The Mothers’ Club goal is to give as much money and assistance as they possibly can.
