As the new school year began, so did an updated Wi-Fi system throughout South.

The updated system can be helpful when it comes to reminding students about their homework and upcoming tests, looking up information in class and teachers having the opportunity to use phones and iPads in their lessons.

“The way the Wi-Fi is used in my classroom is Remind101,” said Bruce Pelto, social studies teacher. “I am able to send a text to the kids as a reminder of their upcoming assignments.”

Pelto is planning to expand the use of the Wi-Fi in his classroom throughout the year, he said.

“The new Wi-Fi system allows me to look up useful information on my phone during class when needed,” said Mia Doyon ‘15.

Students have found many ways to interpret the use of Wi-Fi into their school days.

“I am able to take notes on my iPad during class and then email them to myself so I can print them out at home,” said Jack Warren ‘15. “By doing this I get more notes done in class and will not lose them in my locker.”

As for some teachers, they get little if no Wi-Fi reception at all in their classrooms.

“I’m unfortunately not able to use the Wi-Fi because I do not pick up any in my classroom,” said Chris Bouda, social studies teacher.

For some, the Wi-Fi is seen as useless. They can achieve the same things they did last year without it.

“My teachers do not interpret the availability of Wi-Fi into their lessons,” said Elizabeth Rauh ‘16. “I can still accomplish everything I need to do to without it.”

The Wi-Fi system is not helpful or seen as useful for all students and teachers, but for many they find creative ways to make it a part of their school days, Rauh said. Many teachers are in hope for routers for their classrooms for their future.
