On Monday, May 6, during game dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness and Research, the Lady Blue Devils soccer team defeated North with an ending score of 4-1.
The game started off very intense, but steady. However, the second South scored their first goal, North was in trouble.
“Each player played very well individually,” said head coach Gene Harkins. “Initially, making them play very well as a team.”
Elizabeth Clevenger ’13 and Chelsea Marsh ’13 each scored one goal, Harkins said. While Danielle Manning ’14 scored two goals.
Claire DeBoer ’13 was very effective as defense, and did not let anything get passed her, Harkins said. The defense as a whole was very strong, leaving North not many options and limited time in their zone.
The girls team is looking forward to a successful season, and beating North and some of the girls they play with in the offseason, is something that always adds to the excitement of a season, said Lindsey Makos ’13.
“It’s always an awesome feeling to see any South team beat North,” said player DeeDee Burns ’14. “Especially when it’s your own team.”
The teams next game is Wednesday, May 8 at Sterling Heights Stevenson.
