South’s most talented took its audience for a ride, providing them with a wide variety of acts from Caesar’s Eulogy to the cello.

The 2013 South Talent Show started off with Ingrid Burton’s ’13 cover of “The Girl in 14G” by Kristin Chenoweth.

Next up was Stone Washington ’15, who performed a Shakespearean monologue, Julius Caesar’s Eulogy.

“I wanted to be completely different from everyone. I wanted to do something that nobody else probably did before, and wanted to do something very dramatic,” said Washington. “Me and my dad practiced every day.”

Third was Janey Degnan, who played a movement from D’alabacco’s unaccompanied “Cello Suite” on cello. Degnan placed in second, winning $60.

Fourth was Hannah Ayrault, playing a mashup of “Lights” by Ellie Goulding and “As Long As You Love Me” by Justin Bieber on piano. Ayrault placed third in the competition, winning $40.

Ali Gabrion was fifth in the talent show, singing “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles.

And performing last was Jacob Yglesias ’13, playing the guitar and singing “The A Team” by Ed Sheeran. Yglesias placed first in the competition, winning $100.

“It was a new song and I knew a lot of people liked hearing that song,” said Yglesias.

The talent show had to be rescheduled due to a snow day, and ultimately lowering the attendance. Staff is looking to schedule the event during the first semester for next year, since it is typically less busy.

The event raised about $300. All proceeds benefited the Rock CF foundation, which is dedicated to increasing the quality of life for people with Cystic Fibrosis. For more information visit http://letsrockcf.org/.
