Boys baseball falls to Stevenson, 6-0

Story and photos by Adam Morris ’15 | Staff Writer

The boys varsity baseball team lost 6-0 in a hard fought game against Stevenson High School on Friday, May 2nd.

Stevenson hit consistently throughout the game and was flawless on defense to give them a comfortable lead to get the win.

Stevenson is ranked number one in the state for a reason, said Head Coach Dan Griesbaum.  They are very solid overall: pitching, hitting, and defense is very strong.

“We played much better on Wednesday and Friday against them compared to Monday,” Griesbaum said.  “If you give them an inch they will take it because they are such a good team.”

Griesbaum is pleased the way the team played overall.  Ryan Liagre ‘15 had a couple of key hits and Richie Kish ‘14 pitched extremely well.

“We are going to build on this game as a team and strive to get better,” said Andrew Fabry ‘15.. “Our team could have hit much better, but it’s extremely difficult to hit against Division I college recruits.”

Griesbaum is very confident this team will improve quite a bit as the year progresses on. The team needs to get more consistent overall in every aspect of the game.  They have to cut down on walks, play better defense, and continue to swing the bats, said Griesbaum.

“We faced some of the best pitching in the state and were able to hang with them,” Justin McMann ‘15 said.  “We need to improve on keeping the pressure on a team when we have them discouraged and putting together a seven inning game.”

Fabry is hopeful about making it far in the playoffs this year and is excited for the atmosphere and drama during that run.

“We need to improve on being consistent because we are dangerous at our peak,” Fabry said.

“I am looking forward to competing for the state championship and the rest of our team is behind that challenging task,” McMann said.

The team plays at Chippewa Valley on Monday, May 5th and will have a three game series with them.
