On Tuesday, May 7, the boys lacrosse team not only set a new attendance record, but they were able to demolish North by a final score of 12-6.
“The attendance record went up roughly 80 people,” said Athletic Director Jeremy Hawkins. “Totaling to 458 people.”
The lacrosse team was able to fundraise more money than they would have without the attendance, Hawkins said.
“It was also a chance to enjoy a lacrosse game against a rival,” said Hawkins.
James Champane ’13 scored four goals, one of which happened within the first two minutes of the game. Following Champane was Mac Carroll ’15 and Andrew Hyde ’14 with two goals, and Andrew Wright ’14, Liam McIlroy ’13, and Jack Denison ’14 contributed with a goal each.
“I think that everyone on the team played really well together,” said Champane. “Everyone was prepared to work as hard as they could to beat North.”
Not only was South’s offense playing aggressively, but players such as Aidan Hubble ’15, Meade Maxwell ’13, and Karstin Miniaov ‘15 played strong defense and kept North away from the net.
This game really reflected the team has been playing within the season as a whole, Champane said. The team has have a decent record, but they do face some challenging teams.
“We do win a lot,” Champane said. “However, there is an exception when we are playing against Catholic teams.”
The next game the boys will be playing home against Romeo on Saturday, May 11.
