Boys baseball loses double header with L’Ance Creuse North

Story and photos by Adam Morris ’15 | Staff Writer

The boys varsity baseball team was defeated by L’Anse Creuse North twice on May 16th.  The first game the boys lost 8-3 and the second game they lost 11-0.

“We got off to a bad start in the 1st inning of the first game giving up four runs which is hard to overcome,” head coach Dan Griesbaum said.  “It was a decent game, we didn’t hit enough but fought back for a few innings.”

Jacob Stone ‘15 had an outstanding play in left field, delivering a perfect throw to home plate with Ron Williams ‘14 blocking the plate and tagging the runner out in time.

“He (Stone’s) play was crucial at the time, it was a perfect throw and definitely what we needed,” Griesbaum said.

Douglas Graham ‘16 pitched real well in relief and kept South in the game to give them a chance to make a comeback.

“We could not hit today and made a lot of mistakes in the field, fielding is what we need to improve on the most,” Andrew Eaton ‘14 said.  “We need to throw more strikes, stay confident, and not get down on ourselves.”

The rainout games four days in a row slowed us down as a team, said Andrew Fabry ‘15.

“We need to improve our overall competitiveness and get the rust off from the rain outs and come back strong in the next game against them on Monday,” Fabry said.  “After these two losses we need to stay mentally tough each game.”

We need to really find out who our number one pitcher is and who is going to emerge there as playoffs loom nearer, said Griesbaum.

“We have a great chance on going far in the playoffs we just have to stay consistent with all aspects of our game,” Fabry said.

We have got to basically be on our game at all times since Districts is only one game elimination, said Griesbaum.

“I feel pretty confident going into playoffs, we perform well under pressure and our bats are definitely coming around,” Eaton said.

South is playing in an invitational on May 17, against Country Day, Cousino, and G.P. North.
