Boys lacrosse to play for MAC Red championship

Boys+lacrosse+to+play+for+MAC+Red+championship

By Jack Weaver ’15| Staff Writer

With a shot at an outright MAC Red Championship, the boys lacrosse team will face off against a strong Utica Eisenhower (Ike) team this Saturday, May 17.

“We know it’s a big game and we treat it like one,” said Aidan Hubbell ’15. “We’re playing for an outright conference championship win as opposed to sharing it with Ike.”

In the first meeting between the two rivals, the team was able to go into a hostile environment and come out with a 12-9 victory. In a show of impressive teamwork, nine different players accounted for the team’s 12 goals.

South would carry this momentum on to win the rest of their games up to this point, and accumulate a 13-game win streak. Playing against Ike is more than just a regular game, it’s a rivalry game and  a chance to win an outright championship.

“Ike is always a game that we circle on our schedule, and a win against them would be great for team morale going into playoffs,” said Jack Denison ’14.

Adding to the hype of tomorrow’s game is the fact that it will be Senior Day. For the seniors, the thought of their final season at South coming to a close still seems unimaginable.

“It’s our last regular season game as seniors, but I don’t think that has really hit us yet,” said Denison. “Once it does, I think it will bring on a lot of emotion, which I think will be an advantage for us.”

Although parents and fans will cast their focus on the accomplishments of this years’ seniors, for players like Captain Andrew Wright ’14, it’s about taking care of business and securing a conference championship.

“It’s a huge game, in my four years of playing at South we have never been outright champions,” said Wright. “All the Seniors want this game bad.”

Come support the team and congratulate graduating seniors at home, on Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m.
