SA dodgeball event benefits muscular dystrophy

Today, Friday April 26 Student Association will be hosting a dodgeball event for muscular dystrophy. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the gym, Distlerath said. There will be around 10 dodgeball teams participating.

Students created teams they thought that would be able to win the tournament,  said SA advisor  Laura Distlerath.  Every participant in each group paid $ 20 for the event.

“It’s in honor of a former SA president Eric Redenbach,” Distlerath said.

Dan Griesbaum, who taught Redenbach in PE at Trombly remembers Redenbach as someone who never let his disease stop him from living his life.

“He would play every game at Trombly elementary in his wheelchair,” said Greisbaum.

Since Redenbach came from such a nice family Greisbaum knows they will be appreciative of what South is doing in his honor, Greisbaum said.

“Anything that will enable people to have fun and raise money is a really good thing,” said Greisbaum.

In the past, the sport that was played was volleyball, Distlerath said. However, dodgeball is a sport that will be fair for everyone to participate and be active in.

“Volleyball is a sport that you’re either talented at or you have no idea,” said Matt Manardo ’14. “Dodgeball is a lot more entertaining anyways.”

“Even if you didn’t decide to form a team you can always come and support the cause and enjoy the entertainment,” Manardo said.
