With many motivating factors that got the class excited to donate, Scott Brunner’s third hour AP Physics class pooled together $830 to put towards buying 4,450 packages of Ramen noodles to support the Canned Food Drive, said Chris Fowler ’13.
The school brought in about 6,400 cans for the American Red Cross, less than half of 13,000 cans the school brought in for last year’s drive, Committee Chair Wade Penman ’14 said.
“One of the underlying motivations was competition from Mr. Brunner’s class last year,” Fowler said. “We wanted to beat them, and also we were just really excited about the Canned Food Drive and of course it’s a great cause that we all want to participate in.”
Brunner said he was minimally involved in getting his students involved but really all the students were self-motivated and wanted to bring in money for the event. Chris Fowler was the leader and got people really excited about it in class.
Tristan Mackethan ’13 and Chris Fowler drove two cars filled with Ramen Noodle packages from Kroger to South, said Mackethan.
“We decided as a class that whoever brought in the most money to contribute to buying the ramen would get to claim it as their own, and I ended up bringing in the most money, so technically speaking, I brought in 4,450 packages of Ramen, but I can’t take all the credit for that because the whole class contributed,” said Fowler.
Although the class brought in the $830 together, since Fowler contributed the most money to the class average, he will keep the iPad mini and the whole class will enjoy a pizza party.
