Are you planning on having a summer job? Were you thinking of being a lifeguard? There are so many benefits to being a lifeguard, and that is why it’s so popular. Even just the process of becoming a lifeguard has so many perks. You get a deep-water certification along with being CPR and first aid certified. You learn so many things while taking the class to get certified in things that you might have to end up doing when you are not even working, they are great skills to have.

When you work as a lifeguard, you also get breaks, and when you are on the chair, it is not for long. Everyone loves the breaks you get while lifeguarding because you can do things that you need to do or just chill out in the guard office while still being paid. According to, you get at least a 30-minute break before you go back onto the chair.

Along with just getting to be in the sun all day, you get a swimsuit and cool lifeguarding gear too! If it is your first time with a job, you can get really good social skills and learn how to properly handle park residents, which will help you your whole life and in future jobs

There are also so many opportunities to meet new people and make new friends. I have made some of my closest friends through lifeguarding, and it is really an amazing time to bond with people, even just on breaks. Outside of work, the lifeguards love getting together to do things like cornhole tournaments and just have so much fun with people you wouldn’t know if it wasn’t for the job.

Lastly, If you are looking to work not just at your park, there are so many pools especially in Grosse Pointe. You may get asked to lifeguard a private party and make so much money only having to watch a few kids. This can also make extra money from just giving private swimming lessons while you’re at work.

If you’re thinking about being a lifeguard or getting certified to do it. You should do it because it is one of the best jobs you will get and you will never want to quit.
