Matthew Hamilton ‘26 is the sports desk editor this year on Tower. He got his love for journalism from his older siblings, previous staffers Mike and Katie, both in college at Michigan State.
“My sister was an EIC for the web my first year on staff, and then my brother was also like an associate before I was in Tower,” Hamilton said. “So with that, I’ve always kind of loved to like, report, and with sports, being the sports editor, it’s kind of like a win-win.”
Given Hamilton’s role on Tower, it’s no surprise he’s a huge sports fan, especially for teams like the Lions, Pistons and the Red Wings. Hamilton played football during his freshman and sophomore years, along with doing track and field, and this year he’s playing varsity tennis.
“I love to help others, volunteer work, things like that. This summer, I had a non-profit baseball league in one of the parks in Detroit,” Hamilton said. “It was really cool.”
Other than sports, in his free time Hamilton enjoys fishing, watching animal documentaries, helping others, listening to artists like Tyler, the Creator and of course, visiting his siblings.
“I mean, I’m excited to help younger classmen this year, kind of develop, as my sister and that class helped me and I’m excited for the year,” Hamilton said.
