The Super Bowl is here and yet again, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have emerged victorious out of the AFC, looking to make history by winning their third straight Superbowl. However, it won’t be easy with the Philadelphia Eagles winning the NFC Championship very easily and star running back Saquan Barkley rushing for a franchise record of 2005 yards only 60 short of the record.
The scene was set for a Super Bowl rematch in New Orleans and fans were split on who would win. With a spread of just -1 for the Chiefs it was practically tied in fan votes. Latin teacher David Smith thought the Chiefs were going to find a way to win with the help of the referees.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if the Chiefs won on a last-minute field goal or blocked a game-winning kick,” Smith said. “It seems like every year people think the Chiefs are going to lose only to get completely bailed out by the referees, which sucks for fans.”
In the beginning of the game, some unfamiliar things were happening and Kansas City was losing. Luke Parent ’26 was surprised with the outcome of the first half. Parent was planning on turning off the TV after the first biased call against the Eagles but was thrilled when the Eagles jumped off to an early lead.
“Honestly, I didn’t even want to watch the Superbowl this year,” Parent said. “What was unbelievable was the score at the half. The Eagles were winning, like, 24-0 and on pace to make the Chiefs the first shut-out team in history.”
After a positive halftime show and a ton of confusion about the outcome of the game, fans were tempted to turn off the so-called “game” since there was no hope for the Chiefs coming back. However, late in the fourth quarter Patrick Mahomes was able to throw three separate touchdowns and two successful two-point conversions to put up 22 points.
It was a little too late. The final score was 41-22 and the Eagles won in one of the most bizarre Super Bowl games of all time. Andrew Pazuchowski ’25 enjoyed the game despite the lack of excitement.
“Even though the game wasn’t very action packed as previous years, it was still cool to see all the commercials and the halftime show to go with good food,” Pazuchowski said.
