The girls varsity lacrosse team faced off against Canton on Monday, March 26, in their second game of the season.

The game was played at home on the turf. It was a close game the whole way through with South leading most of the time, but Canton took the win with a final score of 13-12.

“I think we can improve our cuts on offense and especially in this game our midfield transitions, and we could have passed the ball sooner,” captain Elise Whitney ’18 said.

The team practices every day from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Whitney and Captain Anne Rinke ’18 said the team will adjust their practice routine in response to the loss.

“We are pretty out of shape as a team, so it will take a few more conditioning practices to improve our outcome,” Rinke said. “We will also probably work on ground balls more to reduce the amount of turnovers we have.”

Along with the errors and mistakes shown in the game, there were also many strengths.

“This was our first full game together as a team with eight new varsity players, so I think that we played like a team who had been playing together for a long time,” Whitney said. “Our defense and communication were really good, and we had each other’s backs all around.”

The girls’ overall record so far is zero wins, two losses. Their next game is on March 28, in Northville at 7:30 p.m.
