The Boys JV Basketball team had an amazing win over L’anse Creuse High School on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. South won 65-25, which has been one of their best games yet of the season. Having good momentum from the start of the game has been the biggest challenge for the team this year, but they are continuing to figure out what they need to do to have a stronger first half.
As one of the team’s leading scores Samuel Steinhebel ’27 has big goals this season and he mentions how the team needs to be ready to play hard as soon as the clock starts counting down and work together to win the first quarter.
“I think the game went well but we started off slow but then we got into a groove and everything went well from there. We need to start coming out the gate ready to play and we need to lower our turnover percentage,” Steinhebel said.
Throughout the game, many points were stolen because of how many turnovers there were. John Leonard ‘27 is another key player on the team and he agrees that the team needs to work on their consistency.
“I think the game went pretty well. We came in with low expectations with the team that we were playing, and it earned us a 9-point deficit at the end of the first quarter, but then we ended up calming down and going on a 30-0 run in the second quarter,” Leonard said.
Although they had a rough first quarter the team really stepped it up in the second quarter and held the rest of the game. Leonard thinks they need to set the pace of the game before their opponents do.
“I think we can improve on how we start the games in general, it takes us too long to get going. Our goals are just to keep getting better, incrementally. We want to set the pace of the game and don’t play how our opponents want us to,” Leonard said.
