It is that time of year when the leaves are falling. The air is getting crisper and that beginning of school motivation begins to fade. During September, that first month of school is exciting. Students have a fresh start, new classes, and get to see their friends on a day to day basis. By the time November rolls around, the realization that this will be your life for the next 8 months begins to seem more and more real.
At the beginning of school everything is new and it’s easier to stay motivated when there is so much to look forward to. There are pep assemblies, football games, and homecoming that all give us things to look forward to. But once that beginning of school ambition wears off and these events are over, school work starts to pile up and classes start getting more difficult. Many students start to feel overwhelmed with the workload and pressure to give it their all. This is when I believe school is the hardest. Staying on top of everything can be draining.
Even though this stretch of school is long and at times discouraging, I do think it is necessary. Putting in the work these few months helps to set you up for the rest of the year. This also allows students to see past highschool and get a glimpse of what reality might be for them in a few years. I understand how draining these months can be but many people wont have as many breaks as we do know so i think it is important to get used to it.
By the time break comes the feeling of relief and happiness that you were able to push through this rough patch makes it all worth it. If the past months had been easy the break would not be relieving and students would not appreciate it as much. Pushing through is tough but worth it, but before we know it, thanksgiving break will be here and we can return to school with a renewed sense of motivation and keeping up with school won’t be as intimidating.
