Empowering special needs families

Empowering+special+needs+families

On Feb. 28 from 3:30-7:30 p.m., the Family Center of Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods is hosting its second annual Special Needs Resource Fair with the Special Needs Resource Alliance at the War Memorial. The Special Needs Resource Alliance is a group with local non-profit organizations, school systems and service providers who work together to offer support for individuals and families with special needs in Southeast Michigan.

The Family Center is a non-profit organization that was founded over 23 years ago, its mission is to build healthier and happier families within the community. Last year at the special needs resource fair, there were over 40 vendors and 150 attendees, this year they expect even more.

“The fair caters to parents and caregivers looking for supportive opportunities for their neuro-diverse children and features a wide variety of educational, recreational, and occupational resources along with mental health, legal, and government services,” family center employee Jennifer Bingham said. “Families are welcome, and a quiet room with self-directed activities will be available.”
