The Boys’ Varsity Tennis team competed in the division two state tournament at Midland Tennis Center, placing eighth in their division overall during the weekend of Oct. 15, 2022.

Captain Connor Stafford ’23 ended up taking home a victory in singles for his team.

“One of the most memorable moments was when I ended up winning the state championship and winning singles,” Stafford said. “With the whole team watching, parents and other players, it brought over a very big crowd from both teams. It was very exciting, and I’m ecstatic since this very long match ended well for South’s tennis team.”

According to Stafford, this win did not come easily– the team had high expectations and did their best to enter this competition with a positive mindset..

“The thought of being in the state tournament brought a different mindset,” Stafford said. “The boys brought more energy and enthusiasm, which paid off during our matches at states. We practiced the idea of being as encouraging and positive as possible.”
