MaShanta Ashmon has always taught social studies. According to Ashmon, her favorite part about teaching is simply her students.
“They always come up with something new and each individual kid brings something special to the table,” Ashmon said. “The other thing would be when they have ‘aha’ moments.”
Aside from teaching, Ashmon is the Black Student Union advisor. “The goal of the Black Student Union is to provide a safe space for students of color and others to share our different experiences openly and honestly,” Ashmon said. The Black Student Union does many beneficial activities including food drives and they are currently working on awarding a scholarship to a deserving student. “We did a food drive over Christmas break and fed close to thirty families, so that was really nice,” Ashmon said.
