Drive Chip and Putt

Coalter Smith ‘19 had an experience of a lifetime at Augusta National in the Drive Chip and Putt Championship. Smith had to make it through three different qualifiers to reach the national finals.

In all three different qualifiers Smith had to complete the same task. All contestants were asked to hit three putts, three drives and three chips. They would be scored on all three categories and the results are totaled at the end.

The national finals are played the weekend before one of the four majors in professional golf, The Masters.

Smith competed in the 13-15 year old division but there is also a 5-8 and a 9-12 division for both boys and girls.

All of the contestants were able to walk the grounds of the course and meet some of the most famous professional golf players in the world.

The whole event is televised on golf channel and is becoming bigger and bigger every year. The event is played annually and open for entry directly after the finals conclude.

The contestants get the opportunity to putt on the 18th hole, one of the most iconic holes in all of golf and is surely an experience all the juniors will never forget.
