The romantic comedy, Rosaline, new in theaters Oct. 6, 2022, is a twist on Romeo and Juliet. The film has received 6.4 out of 10 stars and 74 percent on rotten tomatoes but has received mainly positive reviews. With Kaitlyn Dever as Rosaline Capulit, Kyle Allen as Romeo and Isabella Merced as Juliet, it’s exciting to see them act out this love story. The film is shown through the perspective of Rosaline, Romeo’s ex-girlfriend, before he fell in love with Juliet.

The movie includes a modern take, but because of the way the characters are dressed and the scenery, the 14/15 century origins still shine through. Romeo, Juliet, and Rosaline are very romantic, unlike today’s generation. Romeo’s word choice, while being romantic, is unlike anything heard today.

Rosaline kept her relationship with Romeo a secret due to the ongoing feud between their families for many generations. Her father has different plans for Rosaline, he wanted her to get married for materialistic reasons but she wanted true love. Throughout the film, Rosaline goes against her father, which was not expected at the time. Rosaline was trying to save her love life but ended up finding love in an unexpected way. Seeing what Rosaline does to end the love of Romeo and Juliet, kept it amusing.

For lovers of Romeo and Juliet, I highly recommend this film since it offers the new perspective of Rosaline. The movie’s modern humor appeals to older children and adults. This film is a must watch and leaves you with a joyful feeling after the surprising ending. I was laughing constantly and was interested throughout the entire movie.
