Podcast tours have become popular among the teenage crowd on the internet. Unlike traditional podcasts, where content from influencers is consumed online, these tours offer fans the unique opportunity to experience their role models in person. This provides a real and raw experience for viewers, allowing the audience to engage with their favorite creators while enjoying a shared experience, like attending a concert.
Popular influencer Jake Shane is known on the apps TikTok and Instagram for his humorous content and vlogs about his daily life. Last year, he expanded his career by launching his podcast called “Therapuss”, in which he talks about serious topics such as his daily struggles with anxiety and OCD but also combines them with his well-known humor that his fans adore. After his launch of the tour dates, teens from all over have been rushing to get tickets to his show. Angela Allen ’26 is a long-time fan of Jake Shane and is excited to finally see him in person.
“I have been following Jake for a while now before he became viral on TikTok,” Allen said. “When he announced he was going on tour, I immediately bought tickets. I am excited to see one of my favorite influencers in person finally.”
While many other influencers are announcing their shows and tour dates, some people prefer a classic concert over a podcast show. Many popular artists announce their upcoming tour dates throughout the year, leaving fans to choose whether to spend their money on concert or podcast tickets. Brody Vinyard ’27 has gone to many concerts over the past few years, immersing himself in the live music experience rather than watching a podcast.
“One of my favorite influencers shared they were going on tour, and I really wanted to go to the show, but my favorite artist also announced that he was going on tour,” Vinyard said. “Any day, I’d choose going to a concert over a podcast show. Concerts are worth the money way more.”
Before people spend money on a podcast ticket, fans want to know if going to the show is worth their spending. Reviews from people who attended the podcast show called “Cancelled” by the hosts, Brooke Schofield and Tana Mongeau, say their feelings are mixed. Some fans written reviews online rave about the unfiltered nature of the show, while others criticize the lack of new content and value for the price, particularly if they didn’t get a meet-and-greet opportunity.
“I love Tana and Brooke and their guests they bring on the show.” @cori_p said on the website Reddit, “But on the other hand they say the same things over and over again in different words, and it gets old.”
As podcast tours attract more attention from teens, the excitement surrounding influencers like Jake Shane or Tana Mongeau shows the growing appeal of these live experiences. Whether fans prefer podcast shows or concerts, both artists must maintain a non-repetitive and new experience. Ultimately, choosing between a podcast tour or a concert ticket reflects your own individual taste.
“You can’t go wrong with a concert, but I also think that branching out and trying to go watch a podcast show would also be really fun,” Vinyard said.
