Losing key players last year and gaining new teammates, it can be hard to create a strong team. Kooper Richards ’27 believes that so far they have come together to win in tough situations.
“We have been sticking together,” Richards said. “We were out of it in the first half, but we came together in the second. That comes down to the team chemistry we have, we are a tight knit group.”
The game wasn’t perfect, especially as they were down at the half, with Detroit Loyola at 22 and South at 18. To create more dominance in future games, Captain Vincent Vachon ’25 does see more improvements to come as a team during the season.
“We can’t be scared of our opponents, we can’t turn the ball over,” Vachon said. “We have a lot of young guys, Kooper and Sam, sophomores and even a freshman. We have to make these improvements, and it’s something we can definitely do and control.”
This varsity team is filled with all grade levels. This can be a challenge, especially for the underclassman, but it can be beneficial for their athletic improvement. This is Sam Rouleau’s ’27 first year on varsity, which brings a new level that he must play at.
“Being on Varsity it’s faster paced,” Rouleau said. “But it is slowing down as I’ve played more, I’ve gotten more used to it.”
This year’s team feels their connection as a whole, and can be seen on and off the court. Richards gives credit to their success with not just their basketball abilities.
“That’s what helps when you’re not playing the basketball part right is how close we are as a team,” Richards said.
