Even though the South Girls Hockey team’s season just begun, they are starting the season strong: undefeated.
The reigning state champions have started their 2024-2025 season confident and powerful. The team had a 7-0 win on Wednesday night against Bloomfield Hills. After beating Liggett in their first game, who they played in the State Championship last season, and multiple teams in the Traverse City area, the team is staying consistent. Molly Renoylds ’25 played forward and defense positions during the game, and saw how well the team’s communication benefited them.
“I felt like our passing has been getting better in the past few games,” Reynolds said. “I feel like it’s starting to come together.”
Charlie Harr ’26 believes the team’s chemistry helped them dominate the ice during the game. She said it helped them score goals and pull off the win.
“I think we work very well as a team,” Harr said. “I’ve been playing with some of these girls for three years, so we know where each other will be most of the time.”
In the last period of the game with only a few minutes left on the clock, Reynolds scored the sixth goal with an assist by her friend and teammate, Abby Evans ’25.
“I mean, it feels really good to score,” Reynolds said. “Always feels good to help the team out the best you can.”
Although the team beat Bloomfield Hills by a significant amount, Reynolds believed their team was a strong competitor with a lot of good players that made it a challenge for South. Because of their State Championship win, Reynolds said teams are going to try and go for them, making the rest of the season important to maintain victories.
“It’s always fun to win and get to go out there and score and play for your team,” Reynolds said. “We just have to keep playing our game and keep winning.”
