First year staff writer Oskar Grand ’27 loves the outdoors. He enjoys jet skiing and biking with friends. Grand said he is looking forward to Debate Club starting back up this year so he can join and obtain more of a high school experience. He was inspired to go into journalism because of his uncle who works as a journalist for Michigan State University doing legislative work. Grand is excited for how his position on the Tower will benefit his future and current self..
“[My uncle] definitely is part of the reason I wanted to join [The] Tower,” Grand said. “I think what he does is very interesting and I wanted to experience a little of that for myself. That’s why I’m here and I’m excited.”
Another one of Grand’s many interests is traveling. His favorite place to travel is the West Coast. Currently he is planning a trip to Alaska which he said he is very excited about.
“I’ve been pretty much everywhere, that isn’t irrelevant,” Grand said. “California, Florida, Seattle, Washington D.C., and so many other places. I can’t wait to add more places to that list.”
All-star poker and euchre player and first year staff writer Nadeem Haurani ’27 lives a triple life. As an avid athlete, honors and volunteer student and a new Tower staffer, he has a true knack for helping others. If he’s not playing sports like lacrosse, swim and football, he can be found watching sports like the Michigan football game. Driven by his passion for athletics and supporting others, he frequently volunteers at a sports camp for unprivileged kids run by his coaches.
“I just like helping people,” Haurani said. “If anyone ever needs anything I’ll be there.”
Outside of his student athlete commitments, he is also an enthusiastic member of the Tower.
“I like journalism specifically because I like the free aspect where you can just do anything you want,” Haurani said. “ I like Tower because it’s run by the school, so I get to participate while still learning.”
