“Chromokopia” by Tyler the Creator was probably the most anticipated album of the year by a lot due to the features that were said to be on it. But, this made many people discredit it because of the features of the album that weren’t there.
With the new release of Tyler the Creator’s album “Chromokopia,” there have been many mixed reviews and thoughts on it. The album starts off with a great song in St. Chroma which showcases Daniel Caesar’s amazing voice, which was thought to be Frank Ocean by many for a while. The album genre switches between rap and slow hip hop with songs like, “Thought I was Dead” and “Hey Jane,” which are completely different types of songs to that of the rest of the album.
My personal favorite song on the album was definitely “Thought I was Dead.” It consisted of a great verse from Schoolboy Q and another scrapped verse from Playboi Carti that’s only on Vinyl. My least favorite song was “Sticky.” Not because it was bad, but because it was the first song with features, which were Sexxy Red and Glorilla who I was not hoping to see. The beat for this song was great, but Lil Wayne had a great verse that was cut way too short. The potential was there, but executed horribly.
“Rah Tah Tah” was another great rapping performance from Tyler and also one of my favorites on the album. I think it will be one of the more overlooked songs but who knows what might happen to it and whether it gets overplayed or not. The worst song on the album is “Judge Judy” Although most disagree I just found it uncomfortable to listen to due to the explicit nature of the song. Another standout for me was definitely “Darling, I” This song was objectively the best song on the album for most.
While listening to “Like Him,” I could’ve sworn I heard Baby Keem, but wasn’t sure until I looked it up and saw many other people heard the same thing as me with a one-word feature.
I really enjoyed this album with the storytelling and great production from Tyler and even the features despite them not living up to the hype. Overall, I would say the album was great and had a lot of notable songs but not better than “Igor.”I really hope to see where Tyler goes from here and what he decides to release in the next few years.
