The 2024 parade featured a spectacular lineup of floats for each grade, including “Firefighter Freshman,” “Soaring Sophomores,” “Jaws Juniors,” and “Saddle-Up Seniors.” In addition to the floats, the Homecoming Court received special attention, riding in their designated cars, adding to the festive aspect. The Student Association and Student Council E-Board also participated, presenting their leadership and engagement with the student body and community.
Sydney Eickhorst ’26 shares her excitement for the parade.
“It’s so much fun watching the whole school come together at one time and seeing all the creative floats,” Eickhorst said. “All the grades are talking to each other, and it shows how united South is as a school as well as our town since they all come to watch us.”
Community members lined the streets, waving and cheering as the parade passed. Kids even collected candy thrown at them by students, strengthening the connection between the school and Grosse Pointe.
As the parade came to an end, students rushed quickly to the football field for the game, where eagerness filled the air.
“Once we reach the football field gates, we all are trying to get in and find seats,” Eickhorst said. “Everyone is so excited to watch the game together.”
Overall the 2024 South Homecoming Parade was a success, not only did it celebrate school spirit but was also a great success in bringing together students, staff and community members. It was a lively atmosphere, filled with smiles and laughter, highlighting the connections that make South’s school community so special, showcasing the excitement everyone shares for South and homecoming time.
“Homecoming is such a special time because it brings everyone together,” Eickhorst said. “It just shows how much pride we all have in our school and each other.”
