Just imagine, it’s a Sunday afternoon and you have nothing on your schedule so you decide to see the Lions game, just to see that tickets have more than doubled from last year to an average price of $498 compared to last year’s $226 according to seatgeak.com. Well, this is a reality many die-hard Lions fans have to face. Since then, the Lions have completely flipped their franchise from going 3-12-1 in 2019 to an impressive 12-5, winning the NFC North and winning their first 2 playoff games in 30 years.
Luke Davey, a coach of the JV South football team and a Lions season ticket owner, finds it difficult to enjoy a lot of the Lions games because of the increase in ticket prices.
“I have always loved going to every Lion’s game, especially the ones I can see with my family,” Davey said. “It’s just frustrating to me how expensive tickets are now, compared to years prior.”
However, according to Will Scott ‘26, the Lions organization gives priority to previous season ticket owners before offering the tickets to the public.
“It’s nice how my family doesn’t have to stress about getting tickets every year,” Scott said. “It allows me and my family to have a stress-free season and just enjoy watching the lions.”
The Lions have the third-best odds this year to win the Super Bowl according to foxsports.com. Luke Parent ‘26 a longtime Lions supporter thinks ticket prices are so elevated based on hopes for a deep playoff run.
“I know it seems expensive for tickets to a football game to cost multiple thousands of dollars,” Parent said. “But fans are thinking about possible three home playoff games as well as the nine home games to watch as well.”
Even though season tickets are running fans’ pockets dry Davey says it’s worth it in the long run with the memories you get to make during the games.
“It’s not every day that the Lions are in a position to not only be a Super Bowl contender but also have a strong chance of winning the Super Bowl,” Davey said. “So at the end of the day, I’m still going to buy the tickets because life is short and I would rather watch the games than go on a vacation or a cruise.”
