The experience in the library for tutorial at South can be entertaining for students, but can also become a distraction.
With the new decision of students not being able to go to the library two days in a row, there has been some mixed reactions from students. Librarian Courtney Johnson said the rule was implemented because of the various teacher cuts and the fact that there is no one in the library in the mornings, or after school.
“It was really some teacher’s decision (for the new policy) and how to manage how many students they have in their room versus how many slots are available,” Johnson said.
For students like Mackenzie Simon ’26, going to the library for tutorial is something that helps them to focus and work better.
“I think (the library) is quieter and it’s just a different learning space compared to a classroom,” Simon said.
Johnson said that, even though she would love to have all of the students down in the library and having fun, the idea of having tutorial in the library has morphed.
“The initial reason for it was because students didn’t have computers, but now students have their own laptops,” Johnson said. “You guys used to come down to print, (but) now you don’t even need to print.”
