The Mental Health Club is supportive of students battling issues in school and at home. Promoting mental health and wellness in our school and providing opportunities for students to develop skills and practice healthy strategies, club advisor Ashley Hester said the club hopes to benefit all students.
“We plan events for the school that we hope bring joy and happiness to others, such as lunchtime laughs and wellness week,” Hester said. “We discuss what activities we want to bring back this year and what new activities we want to introduce.”
The main goal of the Mental Health Club, as mentioned by Hester, is to normalize the regular practice of taking care of our mental health much like the way we do our physical health, with small, routine strategies and practices.
Students looking for a way to wind down and destress should take a look at the club’s wellness week, where all students have the opportunity to engage in the activities and learning tools and special strategies to help support a healthy lifestyle. Things like incorporating laughter and breathing exercises.
“We do fun things like bring in therapy horses, plant succulents in little pots, and art therapy,” Hester said. “We are currently planning for wellness week, which is pretty time-consuming.”
