“I’m going to work in the harbor store at the Detroit Yacht Club, where I’ll ring people up when they came to buy candy or boat supplies. It’s mostly little kids that come in and it gives me a chance to do my summer homework because there’s a lot of down time and I’ve learned how to work a cash register.”

“I got my job working in the snack shack at the pier park because a friend of mine had worked there. I’m looking forward to a pay and seeing all my friends. I’m excited because it will give me something to do. That’s why everyone should get a summer job!”

“I’ve worked at a fudge shop in Mackinaw since I was 12 where I help out with the customers and make candy. I’m the one who dips the chocolate, and serves people ice cream. Occasionally the manager will let me put the extra toppings over the fudge, so I’ve done that a couple times but I’m mostly the one who makes the chocolates. It really helps because once you’re in a situation like that for a long time it becomes normal to work in a place with tourists. I’ve learned how to be really patient because sometimes customers take a really long time to pick out what they want and the line will be all the way out the door.”

“I”ve been a camp counselor at Spring Hill for three years where I work in the day camp for little kids. I really like being one-on-one with the kids and forming bonds that you originally would not have with them. It’s really cool because you get to know kids from all over Michigan. It’s taught me to be patient with others because you don’t know what people have been through. It’s taught me skills on how to take care of children overall and it’s really positively changed me. I’m looking forward to going back because I’ve grown up with the people I’ve gone to camp with for 8 years now and I’m excited to see them and come closer as a unit since we’ll all be on staff.”

“I’m going to be a nanny over the summer. I really like playing with kids and making food for them. It has taught me a lot of responsibility because you are the one in charge of them and it’s not just myself anymore. It has also taught me manage my time and help other people out. I’m looking forward to all of the kid activities like going to the pool and playscape.”

“I’m going to be a lifeguard over the summer. I started working there in February of last year and I enjoy working there because the people are really nice and it’s a pretty easy job. I’ve made friends and how to react to high pressure situations. I’m looking forward to another good year and I’ll be a head guard this summer so I’ll have more responsibility. Head guard gets to tell people what to do and delegate jobs. I’ll have to make sure the other guards know what they’re doing, it’s a lot of responsibility but I know I can handle it.”
