For whatever reason, remaking classic movies into live action films has become a crutch for big time movie companies to make money off of. They have drained away all of their creativity from the past, causing them to recycle ideas from their previous productions and lose their audiences.
Movie producers such as Disney have been coming out with what seems like five new remakes a week, draining their popularity and status in the movie-making world. Blockbuster films such as “The Lion King” have maintained popularity years after being released, creating a dedicated fan base. However, I am sure that they have all rolled their eyes at the new and improved “Lion King” as I did when I saw it for the first time.
Why is it necessary to create a “realistic” “Lion King” when the original was good as it was? This is a question that I think Disney should start asking themselves when they decide to make another terrible interpretation of what once was an amazing classic. Not only are they losing fans, but they are also losing their creative spark that made millions of childhoods across the globe so magical.
Disney needs to put more focus into making more classic movies and less on remaking things that they already have. They are at the point in their career where they depend too much on the past to fund their remake productions, and not enough on the creative minds on their staff to make new ones.
I feel strongly that the classics in Hollywood should be left untouched by modern technology and innovations, and be left to be enjoyed by fans as they originally were meant to be. I understand that people don’t have to watch the new remakes if they don’t want to, but it doesn’t mean that there needs to be two of the same movie.
Hollywood is lacking in their productions ever since innovations such as computer graphics and technology have been made popular in the movie making industry. True creativity comes from the heart, not from a screen. As technology continues to advance, it is vital that movie companies do not forget where the true spark of magic comes from.
