As the winter sports season is nearing an end the girls’ hockey team is training to earn back their former state championship title. With daily practices and an amazing record this season, they are doing all it takes to achieve their goals.
Captain Evelyn Smith ’25 has been showing the underclassmen the ropes of the team. Striving to be someone to look up to, she is guiding the team to success in and outside of the rink.
“We gained a ton of freshmen this year so we are really re-learning how to work our positioning,” Smith said. “In practice, we are trying to work on our lines better and break out of our neutral zone. We are working super hard in practice and working out outside of practice. Our goal as a team is to get as far as we can and try our hardest.”
With it being her fourth year on the team, Frances Ring ’25 has also been a great role model, working hard to train up the new members. Ring wishes to represent the team’s spirit as they head into the most serious game of their season.
“Our main goal as a team is obviously to live up to the expectations we set last year winning states,” Ring said. “The little goals such as just keeping positive morals and staying focused and consistent in the game are just as important. My favorite part of the team is just how close we are and how well we get along as a team.”
Ruby Lehnard ’26, treats the team as a family. With all their hard work, she hopes it will be a smooth path to first place, but it’s not as easy as it looks.
“We have been working hard everyday with new drills and working on our lines mostly,” Lehnhard said. “We have a lot of work to do to achieve our past state championship title, but I know we are capable of it. We work really well as a team and I can’t wait to see how the rest of our season plans out.”
Ring is working her hardest along with the other seniors to make this season the most memorable one yet. With their senior night wrapping up, they are on to their final games of the season, soaking up the last of the rink and giving it their all.
“Last year it was a huge success and this year we are prepping every single angle, such as power plays, penalty kills, our chemistry with line mates and the team as a whole just so we are ready to win again this year,” Ring said.
