With the guidance and non-stop leadership of coach Kevin Richards, who is also a father to all basketball players, it is just something that runs in the family. His hard work this season is gearing the girls up for the upcoming season. He strives to work towards things crucial to team work like passing and sustaining these skills in the long run.
“We are working on putting four quarters together. We have had some good moments but need to sustain effort and focus,” Richards said. “Passing has been a primary focus and if we become a better passing team our shot selection and shot percentage will improve.”
Players are attending practice daily, like Maddie Schwesinger ‘26 who commits her time and effort into this team. Even practicing early on their winter break to keep this team running. Hoping this hard work pays off, they are aiming at success at the end of her season.
“Our goal as a team is definitely to work more in sync together and be able to execute our plays and defense as a team, not just one person,” Schwesinger said. We have been working hard in practice to be more efficient when finishing around the basket and making sure to hold each other accountable and push each other.”
Captain Madison Benard ’25 has been working with the newest underclassmen and returning players to get them suited up for this season, teaching them her wisdom and giving advice to her team to keep the dynamic and teamwork strong. She is hoping to be the leader the team looks up to and can rely on.
“Our goal to start the season was to be over 500(winning more than half the games), now we are a little off track, as our record right now is two to six,” Benard said. “A new goal for us now is to finish all four quarters of a game, we are playing well and sustaining energy for half the game. We are trying to keep that energy throughout the whole game.”
