“This season we have one game under our belt so far, we’re really looking forward to the rest of the season,” Smith said. “We look forward to celebrating and getting to know everybody. It’s super fun for myself to even be a part of it. We give students opportunities that any other student at Grosse Pointe South would have.”
Student participant, Julia White ’25 has been on this team for her whole high school career, with this being her last year, it will for sure be the most memorable. She has grown with the players and can’t wait to show what they have been practicing for.
“We are planning to have an amazing season this year, our first home game was a win,” White said. “This sport is so important because it spreads inclusion and it is so much fun for everyone involved. We are spending a lot of time practicing and really getting to know each other in order to bond.”
Evelyn Smith ’25 has worked with many organizations like Kids on the Go and Peer to Peer. She has had a passion for inclusion all her life. WIth this sport she loves the inclusion and how it gives South students a chance to connect with peers and let everyone channel their competitive nature.
“I love how it makes the kids feel like they can do anything in life, and they can be like anyone else,” Evelyn Smith said. “It’s so fun to be a part of and experience emotions with the players. This sport shows them teamwork and the value of winning and losing. I feel like we can expect a lot this season and our team is pretty great.”
Come support the team this season, whether you’re in the bleachers or on the court, the support of South is what keeps this team going. Kathy Smith works hard with the players and makes sure that everyone feels unified.
