Influencers becoming actors is one of those things people can not stop talking about lately. Some people think it’s creative freedom and others think people are using their influencer fame to book big roles. A good example is Noah Beck, who got famous by dancing on TikTok and now has a leading role in the movie, Sidelined. His transition from TikTok to acting has raised important questions like, should influencers stick to what they’re good at, or is it okay for them to try out something new?
On one hand, trying something new can be a great thing. Influencers might not start out in acting, but they are creative people who might just want to explore other jobs than just social media. Beck might have always had a passion for acting but ended up getting famous on TikTok. And everyone should be able to chase their dreams, right? Just because someone ended up getting famous by dancing on TikTok doesn’t mean they can’t act. If anything, it takes guts to step into a completely different field of work where people could judge you from your influencer background.
But on the other hand, some people believe that influencers becoming actors ruins the art of filmmaking. People think that when an influencer gets a role, it can feel unfair to other actors who have worked hard to get where they are. If the acting isn’t good then it could potentially ruin the quality. It also could make people assume they only acted so they had a little extra money in their bank account.
In all honesty, to book a role you need to audition. That means Beck auditioned and got cast because they thought he was suitable for acting. They picked him because they liked his acting more than other actors who auditioned. Just because he has a recognizable face from TikTok does not make him unworthy to act.
In the end, I think that if the Influencer is good at acting, then there is no problem if they want to step into that field. It depends on how seriously they are willing to take acting, they deserve a chance. But if they are just in it for the fame or money it can hurt the quality of the film. Everyone is taught that they should go out and chase their dreams, so why is it wrong if Noah Beck does that?
