After hearing Don Toliver was going on tour, I immediately looked to buy tickets for his show in Detroit. I heard before going that his concerts were some of the best you could attend, so I purchased some floor tickets along with my friend, and I was not disappointed. We were in the pit towards the front of the stage and were surrounded by countless fans throughout the packed arena.
Don Toliver started with the hit song “Kryptonite,” which was followed by “Brother Stone.” By the second song, I realized this was going to be a memorable night due to the fire being set up right next to me and the special effects like lasers, light shows, and smoke. For the third song, “Tore Up,” which peaked at 78th on the top 100 US Billboard, the atmosphere was absolutely crazy. Everyone knew the lyrics, so everyone in the audience was singing along, and several mosh pits started before collapsing at the beat drop of the song.
Don Toliver also played several songs he was featured on, such as “Field Trip” by Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, featuring Don Toliver, Playboi Carti and Kodak Black. Lemonade by Internet Money featuring Don Toliver, Gunna and Canadian rapper Nav, which debuted at #1 on the US Billboard chart. He then played songs like “No Pole” and “Embarrassed” from the 2023 album “Love Sick.”
But the most exciting and surprising song that was played was without a doubt “Fe!n” by Travis Scott featuring Playboi Carti. This song wasn’t really expected to be played since Don Toliver doesn’t appear in the recorded version, but I was very thankful it played. The exciting part was when he stopped the current song before dimming the lights. The whole crowd erupted in screams as the first unmistakable notes played.
After playing “Fe!n” he played “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” by Kanye West, which resulted in an even more exciting surprise for the audience. At that point the whole crowd was jumping up and down so much I could feel the ground shaking under me. The concert was an absolute experience to be remembered and I’m even more glad I went on the floor to watch because being in the crowd and the mosh pits made it so much more fun. It felt like I was more present being down there than it does when you’re in the stands so that was awesome in comparison.
