The game started with a burst of energy from South. Within the first few minutes, forwards Lucas Reynolds ’26 and Will Gryzenia ’27 both found the back of the net, setting South up for an early two to nothing lead. However, L’Anse Creuse fought back fiercely, narrowing the gap to three to two by the end of the first period.
“We kept the energy up going into the second and tried not to let their quick goals get to our heads,” Oliver Sharpe ’25 said.
The second period was a gritty battle with both teams fighting for dominance in the other’s defensive zone. Each side drew penalties, but both teams managed to capitalize with a goal, putting L’Anse Creuse ahead four to three by the period’s end. Despite the setbacks, South remained optimistic heading into the third.
“The game was very high intensity and high scoring, and the L’Anse Creuse team was definitely competitive but clearly had a lot to work on,” goalie Avery Brooks ’27 said.
South came alive in the third period, delivering an impressive offensive power. Within the first three minutes, the Blue Devils scored three back-to-back goals, regaining the two goal lead seen in the first. The shock of goals shifted the momentum completely and L’Anse Creuse struggled to recover, granting South a shutout in the third period. South sealed their victory with an empty net goal in the games last two minutes, bringing the final score to seven to four.
“Keeping the pressure on going into the third really paid off,” Jacob White ’26 said. “Getting those three goals right off the puck drop helped us stay confident.”
With a statement win in their second game, South is showing early signs of being a strong team this season. Their ability to stay composed under pressure and fight back in tough situations is going to make all the difference.
“The game was intense and both ours and their team put up a fight,” Brooks said. “I thought we battled very hard and deserved every part of the victory.”
