Every year leading up to Christmas time South’s Student Association kicks off Adopt-A-Family, a program where donations are used to buy financially challenged families presents during the holiday season. This year, they have new ideas for expanding the program beyond the school.
To put more emphasis on the event, Adopt-A-Family Chair Delaney Meyers ’26 said they rearranged other major Student Association events to align Adopt-A-Family with charity week.
“Usually, we just do Adopt-A-Family and a spirit week in winter; but this year, we’re incorporating Adopt-A-Family with charity week, which is usually in the spring,” Meyers said. “We are growing this to a community-wide thing rather than just inside the school to involve families and parents, along with fundraising with businesses.”
With the families being supported through Adopt-A-Family in mind, having more participation and funding will help reach more people in need.
“By changing it to our charity week, there’ll be a lot more involvement,” Meyers said. “We think people in the community will be very willing to donate to the cause.”
